East SuperSeries Preview- New York vs Rochester
Wrapping up our previews will be New York vs Rochester. The last time these two teams played it was also a super series and Rochester got swept 215-70, 180-105, 210-135. Unfortunately, I don't see this changing this year.
As we discussed earlier, Rochester is a young team that has only had a few practices to get their team ready for this super series. Going up against this experienced roster has been on Rochester’s mind. Trying to get wins against New York will mean that Rochester has to establish bludger control throughout the game and limit the offensive opportunities the Titans get. By doing so, they can try their luck during the snitch on pitch time to get an additional quaffle points boost. By combining this with their natural hard-hitting abilities I believe that they can make it harder for the Titans to do what they want to. Most of all, I think the ability for Rochester to introduce their young players into the MLQ meta against a tough opponent will only serve to better prepare them for the long run.
As the host team, New York did not have any trouble filling out their rosters for this SuperSeries. They were able to split their squad which not only helps their coaches determine rosters for the future but it allows for everyone to get minutes. One of these players will be Isaac Serna-Diaz who is an experienced engage beater coming out of the Rutgers program. His ability to make the right decisions as well as positioning himself to cause turnovers will help Titans run up the score. I believe that the return of Phill Cain offers a free-beater who can pair themselves with any beater on this Titan’s roster- this not only offers flexibility for roster decisions but also can help throw different looks at the opposing beaters.
Overall, I believe that this can be a great series to find the next stars for their respective teams. Players will have the opportunity to play heavy minutes and show their teams that they can make an impact in the future. While I do believe that Rochester can make games close, I do have New York establishing control in the beater game as well as the quaffle game, leading to their eventual sweep in this series.
Prediction: 3-0 New York
